Pattaya can work well for families, but the area matters more than it does for couples. A central hotel puts you in traffic and nightlife; a beach hotel in Jomtien or Wong Amat gives children space and gives you a calmer evening.
The other thing that matters is the room. A double room with an extra bed is not the same as a family room, and a hotel that welcomes children is not the same as one set up for them. The details are worth checking before you book.
The short version
- Jomtien and Wong Amat have the calmest beaches and the most space.
- Family rooms, connecting rooms and extra-bed policies vary; confirm what you are booking.
- A kids' club, a shallow pool and on-site dining make hot afternoons easier.
- Central Pattaya is convenient but busy; it suits short stays rather than a full week with small children.
- Check pool depth, kids' club hours and beach access for your dates.
Where to base a family trip
Pattaya areas for families
| Area | Why it works | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Jomtien | Long beach, more space, calmer evenings, family rooms | A ride to central Pattaya |
| Wong Amat | Sheltered bay, larger resorts, quieter streets | Fewer restaurants within walking distance |
| Pratamnak | Quiet and green, some resorts with kids' facilities | Steep roads; you need transport |
| Central Pattaya | Walkable, close to shops and restaurants | Traffic, noise and a busier beach |
| Naklua | Local feel and seafood restaurants | Fewer family-oriented hotels |
The exact hotel location and the room type matter more than the area name. Check both before booking.
What to check in a family room
- 1The sleeping arrangement. Two adults and two children may need a family room, a suite or connecting rooms, not a double with an extra bed.
- 2The extra-bed charge and whether it includes breakfast.
- 3Whether a cot is available and whether it is charged for.
- 4The pool. Ask about depth, a shallow section and whether lifeguards are on duty.
- 5The kids' club: opening hours, age range and whether it is included in the rate.
- 6The walk to the beach, including any road crossing.
- 7Dining options for children, and whether the restaurant opens early enough for dinner.
Jomtien: the easiest family base
Jomtien has the longest beach in Pattaya and a wide promenade, with more room for children to play than the central bay. The evenings are calmer, and the hotels are more likely to have family rooms and pools. It is the area we suggest most often to families with young children.

Jomtien Beach Road · Mid-range, Beachfront, Family-friendly
Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel & Resort
A beachfront hotel on Jomtien Beach Road with two pools, a spa and family rooms, including a 55-square-metre family room in the Jomtien Wing. The room sizes are listed on the hotel's own site.
Rates confirmed on request.

Jomtien · Beachfront, Family-friendly
Pattaya Park Beach Resort
A beachfront resort at the southern end of Jomtien with a water park and an observation tower. It is the most activity-focused option on this list, and it suits families who want the hotel to be the day out.
Rates confirmed on request.

Jomtien · Beachfront, Family-friendly
Ambassador City Jomtien
A large beachfront resort with a private beach, a big outdoor pool and several room wings. The scale means plenty of facilities, but also more walking between the room, the pool and the beach.
Rates confirmed on request.
Wong Amat and the north
Wong Amat is the sheltered northern bay, with larger hotels facing the water and quieter streets behind them. It suits families who want a resort base and do not mind taking a taxi into the city. The beach is smaller than Jomtien, but the setting is calmer.

Wong Amat · Beachfront, Family-friendly, Luxury
Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya
A beachfront resort on Wong Amat Beach, away from the busiest stretch of the city. It suits families and guests who want a calmer beach setting.
Rates confirmed on request.

Pattaya Beach · Beachfront, Luxury, Family-friendly
Dusit Thani Pattaya
A beachfront hotel in North Pattaya with direct beach access, two outdoor pools, tennis courts and a kids' club. It combines a beach setting with facilities for children.
Rates confirmed on request.
Central Pattaya: convenient, but busy
Central Pattaya is the easiest area if you want to walk to shops, restaurants and the beach. It is also the busiest, with traffic and nightlife that can make an evening walk with small children less relaxing. For a short trip, the convenience can outweigh that. For a week, it usually does not.

Pattaya Beach · Beachfront, Family-friendly, Luxury
Amari Pattaya
A beachfront hotel on Pattaya Beach Road with a Tree House Kids' Club and an executive lounge. It is a central option with family facilities, rather than a quiet resort.
Rates confirmed on request.

Pratamnak Hill · Beachfront, Luxury, Family-friendly
Royal Cliff Beach Hotel
A cliffside resort on Phra Tamnak Hill with a beach infinity pool, a spa and a kids' world. It is a resort stay rather than a city base, with enough on site to keep children occupied.
Rates confirmed on request.
If you need to keep costs down
Family resorts with kids' clubs and multiple pools are rarely the cheapest option. If the budget matters more than on-site activities, look at simpler hotels with a pool and a room configuration that works for your group. Neither of the options below is a resort with a kids' club, so confirm the bedding, pool depth and extra-bed charge before booking.

Naklua · Budget
Garden Paradise Hotel
A small budget hotel and serviced-apartment building on Naklua 12 Alley, with a swimming pool. It is a simpler northern base; ask about the room layout for your family and the pool depth.
Rates confirmed on request.

Pratamnak Road · Budget
Camelot Hotel
A chateau-style budget hotel with gardens and a swimming pool on Pratamnak Road. It is a quieter, lower-cost base, but not a family resort; check the room types and the walk to the beach.
Rates confirmed on request.
A note on beaches and safety
Pattaya's beaches are not all the same. The central bay is busiest and has boat traffic near the piers. Jomtien is wider and generally calmer, and the northern bay is sheltered. Conditions still change with the weather, and jellyfish or strong waves can affect swimming.
Check the flags and local advice on the day, and do not assume a hotel's beach is private unless it says so. If swimming is important, ask the hotel about the water in front of the property and whether there is a lifeguard.
